Ranthambore, India – March 2006

Lions mating in the setting sun and some really great opportunities for getting Lion portraits in perfect light!Following a Leopard as it set off for an evening’s hunting and keeping up with it until it was dark.

We travelled to India to check out the wildlife and accommodation ahead of a future Tiger Expedition. Our main focus was the Ranthambore Reserve. Leaving Delhi by road at 5.30pm and arriving at our lodge at 2am, then up at 5.30am for the first drive of the day was somewhat tiring. The first drive was a great way of seeing the various primates, parakeets, spotted deer, dholes and other native Indian wildlife. One surprise was the number of peacocks; hundreds all over the reserve. Their mating season meant that the males were displaying well. The afternoon drive was very special - soon after starting out, we came across a Tiger which had just killed a small spotted deer. We were able to observe the Tiger eat its kill, walk down to the river for a soak then stroll back past our vehicle. Very, very special! Please take a look at some of our photos from the trip.
